The man I married has a knack for falling asleep…

Meet Mr. OMSH

…especially whenever we’re at my parent’s house.

This is a pretty standard position whenever we're at my parents home.

You can imagine how upsetting this can become. Surely he recognizes how rude he’s being. Doesn’t he care about my parent’s feelings? Doesn’t he care that drool is running down the side of his cheek?

I imagine this would be difficult for some to understand.

I often wondered, “What is it about my parent’s home that puts him to sleep so fast?” I mean, why can’t the boy stay awake?

What is it that puts him to sleep so quickly?

At times it borders on ridiculous. Seriously? HELLO! MR. OMSH! You’re making a fool of yourself!

What is it that keeps him from being able to stay awake?

And then, in a moment, everything becomes clear…so very, VERY clear.

Oh wait, it's becoming clearer.

Oh baby, I’m so sorry. So sorry for all those times I ridiculed you and called you those “not-so-nice” names.

Mr. OMSH, I totally understand now.

You didn’t deserve my criticism. I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND.

Dad’s lectures had the same effect on me as a child, tween, teen, young adult.

Sleep on darlin’ - it’s the best possible escape.

His lectures had the same effect on me as a child.

SIDENOTE: No eardrums were hurt during the process of this photoshoot.

SIDENOTE 2: My Dad isn’t really boring - this is all staged.

What IS NOT staged is his love for the movie Mighty Joe Young (he’ll tell you the original was the best - trust me, it isn’t). He even bought the movie for my children and I think it is obvious he FORCED them to watch it.

Forcibly watching Mighty Joe Young

Look closely - they really aren’t as agreeable as it seems.

This gave me the best laugh I’ve had all day!

    Is your Dad preaching?? :)

  2. Mr. OMSH

The affection to which OMSH refers for Mighty Joe Young is from her father…NOT from me. It’s too frightful of a movie for me to enjoy. Right Daddy OMSH?

  3. OMSH

    Beth - How’d ya guess?

  4. Nicki

Oh, I had a good ole belly laugh from those pictures - mainly because my husband fall asleep EVERY time we’re at my moms house and it enfuriates me!

So was the sleeping part true? Because that was down right hilarious.

  5. naomi

it’s funny, both bran and i had the same reaction when meeting each other’s parents. of course it didn’t help that we had colds each time and really needed the sleep.

  6. OMSH

Nicki - It started out with Mr. OMSH falling asleep in the chair, but then when I started snapping shots of the man, he began waking up - and then, he and my Dad made a joke of it.

But you can ask either one of my parents - the man simply cannot stay awake if everyone is just sitting around talking. And if he does, the only reason is because he’s taking breaks to go out and take a smoke and it keeps his energy to at least a sludge level.

This is a riot!! What a great sequence of shots. I loved it!

I am sitting at work in my office with the door open giggling so loud my co-workers probably think I am losing it. Oh well, it’s Friday. And that is HILARIOUS. When the say the one of him where he slid from the chair… and then to the floor. Oh my. So funny!

And how awesome to see all these posts of you guys hanging out at your parents. I remember being a teen and not being able to wait to get out of that place. Now as an adult and mom, it’s my favorite place to go!

  9. Mandy

I was trying to say “when I saw the one…” I must have still been trying to clean the coffee off my desk I spewed while reading this post with a mouthful. Sorry. I hate typos.

  10. Aileen

I needed this laugh this morning. Thank you!! :) Your husband missed his calling as an actor!! Seriously… I really believed he was asleep in his chair!!

  11. mamalang

    Those are too funny.

My MIL’s house seems to work as a….laxative. Everyone that walks into her house has to use th bathroom within the first 20 minutes. Babies fill diapers. It’s really quite funny.

And I tend to get up and move around a lot when people are just sitting around talking, or I would be asleep as well.

  12. Shannon

Maybe he is just feels so much at home that he can’t help falling asleep. The shot cracked me up.
We named our little dog Joe for that movie. His papers say “Might Joe”.

  13. Mrs. Wilson

    hee hee!

I thought you were serious until I got to the one of Mr. OMSH on the floor with his head on the chair … hilarious!

  14. MMM

    those. are. awesome.

  15. Dad

My worse fear while preaching is going to sleep during my own sermon. But God gave me the solution, pass out No-Doz as communion crackers. Works. God is good!

Our very best days are those when this house is filled with our children … sleeping or awake. We take them anyway and anytime we can get them. All of them.

  16. MidlifeSlices™

Funny stuff, girl! My oldest son can fall asleep anywhere and it’s a big joke around our house. Everyone asks “is Clay coming over to sleep?” When they really mean visit. :)

  17. natalie

that picture of your husband on the floor is priceless! i can’t stop giggling at it! my husband totally plays along like that too. makes for some funny pictures!
