Our New Year’s Eve party was cut short with a phone call.

“Momma, my stomach hurts.”

No, not Meredith.

Emelie.

Apparently, she didn’t get the memo.

Then again, neither did my nose and throat.

Up every night for more nights than I can count has taken a toil on my immune system. Last night, desperate for sleep, I reached for the one thing that both works and makes me gag like I swallowed an oyster…Alka Seltzer Night-time Cold.

Plop plop fizz fizz cold relief is, in a word, disgusting.
But OH how it works.

Any kids in my bed last night?
I have NO IDEA…I slept like a baby.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone.
Now, go get your black eyed peas and cornbread.

   Ah…. I still remember the year when everyone else had the stomach flu and I was the only one happy to see the neighbors bring over some Christmas turkey and the fixings…. It’s good to know what drink of choice to reach for, isn’t it? And that it’s in the house and you don’t have to go out and get it?

   I wish everyone in the House of OMSH a Happy New Year and that you will all be feeling better soon!

   Ah, you bring back such memories! A sick child on New Year’s Eve. Who hasn’t experienced that particular life-joy? Enjoy your black-eyed peas! Life has so many surprises in store when you’re a mom.

   That stuff ROCKS! There’s a plain nighttime version w/o the cold medication that will set you sleeping for days.

   Ok, where am I sending the coffee? Poor thing! I totally feel for ya! But you know I have over 40 pounds of Starbucks coffee in my freezer. Again….. where do I send the box?

   Happy New Year! My night last night was rough too - but finally it didn’t have to do with a screaming teething baby, it was me. If all your house is finally quiet and healthy, that’s when you get hit!

   I spent New Years Eve curled in my recliner asleep with Lil Man all cuddled up in my arms. I woke up just after midnight, gave him a New Years kiss, tucked him into his bed, crawled into my bed … and just before I drifted off to dreamland I heard Lil Man roust up and say ‘mama’ before he belted out a loud cry for his mama to get him out of his bed an in to hers!!
   AHHHH the joys of being a Grandma!

    Ok! I actually did something this morning! Your box of 8 pounds of coffee is sitting on my front porch waiting for the sexy UPS guy to come a whisk it away! It will will at your house no later than Friday afternoon! I hope you can drink it all. If you have no grinder take it into any Starbucks and tell them it was a gift. They will grind it for free. Only grind one bag at a time for flavor purposes. You can freeze the rest till you need it.
