Have you heard of the Reverse Graffiti Project sponsored by Green Works? Seriously, I think I'm gonna hire this guy to come do this in my shower.

What do you do when you have an amazing daughter who is, like most ‘tweens, “looking” for herself, has bouts of melancholy, journals her way out of frustration, and draws inspiration from within?
You buy her a guitar and sign her up for lessons, that’s what.
Emelie is my oldest. I know her perhaps better than the rest of my children because she IS ME. I’m seeing myself grow up right before my eyes–just with siblings. It is, at its best, a revelation; at its worst, painful.
I wish that some things weren’t only understood in hindsight. I wish I could somehow put all the painful lessons I learned into her mind so that she wouldn’t have to personally experience them, but I can’t. On the other hand, along with the more difficult times there was punctuations of absolute joy–and I don’t want her to miss those; not even for a second.
And so, I’m hoping that this will be something she can embrace; something she can dig into, learn, and carry with her always. She has a love for music, a beautiful voice and a way with words. I can’t imagine any instrument would be better.
She was so excited when we went in to “fit” her with a guitar and sign her up for lessons.
I’m excited for the same reason.
We’re beginning.
The two of us.
Together.

Aaaaaaack! This is SO exciting!!!!
ACK! Duelling guitars … lucky Mr. OMSH.
Great post, I don’t see myself in any of my kids. I think I am grateful for that. I was difficult (still am?).

it’s so cool that you have that connection with your daughter.
What poignant Mother’s Day insight. Beautiful.
What a great post! I saw a lanky, awkward boy walking home from school just the other day and I felt like pulling him aside and looking him right in the eyes and telling him - “it’s all going work out PERFECTLY”.
Have fun! My Little Miss and Hubby are taking lessons together and it’s an incredible experience for everyone - I love watching them and they love strumming together.
Enjoy!
I could have written this myself!
Fun!
I’m excited for the two of you. I have a guitar…but cannot play it :)
How lovely!
It tucks right into her and fits her like a glove. Bossy hopes she loves it.
I’ve missed you!
Okay, so you didn’t know I was gone, but I was on vacation and missed visiting your blog every day.
Great idea! Music is really the greatest gift to give a child! (You know, besides life and a place to live …)
loving this
:)
MOMMYKNOWS…what do you mean ‘poor MR. OMSH’? I’m playin’ the lead!
Way cool. I hope Emelie finds a true joy in creating music.
