I was tagged with this meme by Reason Enough. I’m not usually into memes (I think every blogger says that right before they actually participate in a meme, don’t they? It is like a code … to not admit that we are JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!), but here goes nothing.
Real Moms Use Videos As Babysitters
If you don’t admit you do it, you’re lying. Okay, so maybe you aren’t lying, but I don’t believe you; I’m cynical that way. That or I’m embarrassed/ashamed to admit yet another shortcoming after my last few parenting posts.
We don’t have cable or DISH (to lessen the burden on the paycheck and the mind) and yet, ironically enough, I can completely legitimize the use of videos to babysit my children when I need to get something done or am plum tuckered out.
Real Moms Have SONIC Cherry Coke for Breakfast
Oh yes we do.
I’m a sucker for coffee, but when the weather turns hot and sticky, my oh my doesn’t a Sonic Cherry Coke DO THE TRICK. And? A Route 44 can last something like 8 hours! No, really! By the end of the day I’ve been on and off and the pot so much I can honestly say I’ve experienced a total cleanse - sans the refried beans and/or Citrucel®.
So now I have to tag someone else. How many? Hmmmm … I’ll tag 5 (the magic number in OMSHville). That will be Kerflop, Secret Agent Josephine, Mandajuice, Jenandtonic and Sarcastic Journalist.
And don’t get all snarky with me if you’ve been tagged. I’m just carrying on the tradition of the herd mentality.
And please - anyone else that does this - I WANT to see them. Can you link it in comments? I need to see all y’all’s version of Real Momisms.
I really enjoy reading your blog everyday! You give me that little chuckle that I need everyday to make it through the day!
Sonic drinks look so very good! There aren’t any by me. I will tell you that The Mrs. and I considered a 15 minute detour on our way home from vacation just to get to one. Haha. We didn’t actually do it though and I still wish we had.
what’s wrong with videos? hehehe I know what’s “Wrong” with them but we have t his mentality of “we must do everything, and do it ‘correctly’” and I’m all… ehh.. here.. watch a video while mommy hides in the bathroom eating chocolate that she has hidden under the sink so she doesn’t have to share!
I am loving the Real Mom Truths! And yes, Dora is my favorite babysitter. I tagged myself and my own real truth on my blog.
I’m up for it! I just want to see how many other Moms do the same things I do! LOL And yes, we use the tube for babysitting around here too! Sometimes Dora or Scooby Doo entertain much better than I do when cleaning the toilet.
Oh, how I miss Sonic!!! That will be one of the first places I go as soon as we get back to Va. Beach…Sonic burger #1 wo onions and a lime dr. pepper…mmmm…
Great pics — and hey. If you drink it through a straw = no calories, right?
RIGHT??!!!
Kristen - RIGHT! Oh my, that is SO RIGHT! Thank you for reminding me! KIDS! GET IN THE BURB! We’re going to SONIC!
I agree with the book thing! Not all of them are right, but a little of all of them helps! I think it depends on who you are, and who your kids are, and then deciding what works for everyone.
We have to drive like 30-45 mins to another town to get to a Sonic, but I do it. I’m in looooove with strawberry limeade, but being a DP fan I’m so going to try the lime DP.
BTW, lime Coke is a virgin Cuba Libre, my drink of choice when preggie/breastfeeding and can’t have alcohol. Gee, that’s been since 2005! Of course, I can’t have more than one because of the caffeine, but nummy!!!
[...] A few days ago, Jerri tagged me to do the Real Moms meme. I don’t often do memes here but this one is fun so I decided to do it. Also, I was very inspired by the Real Mom answers over on Kerflop and on Oh My Stinkin’ Heck. [...]
I totally agree with the babysitter part. If it wasn’t for DVDs or Treehouse or PBS Kids I would never get anything done.
I don’t know if I can get down with the Sonic for breakfast though (on the other hand we don’t have those here). I just can’t imagine drinking anything other than a hot coffee in the morning. I can’t even do water in the morning.
I got tagged too so I did mine tonight.
sherry - when you wake with 100% humidity, it isn’t raining, and it is 98 outside. You would SOOOO get it! I need one or the other though, that is for sure.
KYouell - I now know that I’m the equivalent of a 10 year old. “You said VIRGIN!”
Real moms DO use video babysitters, oh, yes we do.
And, Jen, yes, real moms do hide in the bathroom to eat chocolate because they don’t want to share (can I hang out with Jen and OMSH, too? Please?).
I don’t know about this whole Sonic coke thing, though. Some real moms don’t know what Sonic is.
And, okay, weird, but some real moms don’t understand memes. Even some real bloggers don’t.
I started my day today with the Sonic Cherry Coke!! In an effort to be some what responsible I went with the Medium though.
Heh…
Hey, I tried the glo-stick thing. It was a hit (no nakey photos though, I’m sure you know why). I got 4 different colors (would have been 5, but I was a spaz and got two packages of blue). My only advice would be to get the package of bracelets - you get five bracelets in a package, so that’s 5 bathtimes of fun! Well, assuming you use a few different colors of course. :)
Sonic Cherry Coke. Yummmm. LOVE that photo of your kiddo watching tv.
My sister got through almost 3 years without using the TV even once…she got pregnant with number 2, and needed a little down time, since my nephew DOES NOT NAP. Now she wonders why the heck she waited so long. They’re all a bit better off for the downtime, I suspect…
I did this meme too. :) http://jellyjules.com/?p=575#comments
Re: chocolate in the bathroom party… I think they should be plain t-shirts and the designs could be what we have to wipe off when the knocking on the door starts.
[...] you need some ideas go and check out beautyshopmomma, kerflop, OMSH, and the person who is rumored to have started it all, [...]
Dang J - make my heart melt with your Real Mom meme. Especially this line … “So next time you mess up, take heart…you may in fact be teaching your child not to make the same mistake.”
KYouell - um … I’ll be wiping off a Reeses PB Cup.
well i just LOVE electronic babysitters, except they dont change diapers.
I wish I could just strap and IV to my arm with Diet Coke in it.
I don’t have an addictive personality, or anything…
I finally did mine… http://secret-agent-josephine.com/blog/2007/03/21/real-moms
sigh. it could have been better but I’m too busy being a real tired mom.
Random blogger: me
Even more random attempt at a meme: http://workawayfromhomemom.blogspot.com/2007/03/real-moms.html
If I had a camera, I would tag myself lol. I love a clever meme now and then. And if it weren’t for videos, I wouldn’t have been able to have showered as much in the past 8 years, and who wants to smell that?
Love the Real Moms idea. And for all those people living without Sonic in their lives, I feel for you, I really do. Sonic drinks are to die for. But I do have a slight “thing”, or so I’ve been told, about fountain drinks and the proper type of ice. When I worked for a daycare several years ago, the two ladies running the joint had a serious Sonic addiction and I made happy hour Sonic runs on a near daily basis. Thus my own addiction was born. I’ve recently downsized to a medium in an effort at cleaning up my act. Long live the Sonic!
I finally did it! It was the photo part that made this hard, but it’s done and up.
fancypantsnancy - yea, you’re right about the diapers, but a bit of pre-planning will help you with the next child. For instance, my oldest was 3 1/2 years older than my second and 6 years older than my 3rd. She could change diapers by the 3rd. See? Only 6 years planning and you too can have a built in diaper changer!
Loralee - Um baby, you … um … have a problem. Meet me at SONIC at happy hour and I’ll drink your coke for you. I’m such a good friend that way.
saj - You are too modest - your little slide shows ALWAYS entertain me. Baby Bug! I’m sending you smooches!
Karen D. - You. Me. Marble Slab. Or your choice. I like Baskin Robbins too! You are my kind of momma!
Jesse - Yes, thank the Lord for the ingenuity of VHS and now DVDs. It is soooo nice to be UNDERSTOOD!
Leta - I refuse to feel guilty that I’m drinking a Route 44 while you sip away at a medium. You’ll come back to the land you departed. Those extra ounces are calling your
hipsname as much as mine!Kyouell - BLESS YOU - that is called natural parenting at its best. Knowing what is right for your child and DOING IT!
[...] felt sort of guilty posting it in the first place, because I know that some of my readers have a serious Sonic Cherry Coke addiction. Some of you (or your loved ones) love soft drinks the way I love that first hit of morning java. [...]
