Slip on the lid
Momma’s gonna make us some shortenin’ bread.
And that ain’t all
Our Momma’s gonna do
She’s gonna cook us some coffee, too.
I’d never had shortenin’ bread before, and theSmockLady wouldn’t hear of that. Look what that sweet momma shipped me for the tasting! I’m sure if she was here she would have ground and “cooked” me some coffee too, but alas…Mr. OMSH stood in a pinch.
I can’t get this song off my mind.
Momma’s little baby loves…
…shortenin’, shortenin’
Momma’s little baby loves shortenin’ bread.
Thanks to theSmockLady for momma’s breakfast this morning!
This was a nice surprise yesterday evening when UPS arrived. At the time I was dealing with SPAM IN MY FEED.
Thankfully a few of my readers wrote to inform me. Note to self: subscribe to your own feed! Jacquelyn sent me screenshots of the damage.

Yes, that is 3 pages of spam links at the tail end of my feed.
Four hours later I had manually upgraded my WordPress (yes, I installed before Fanastico was an option) and then, I uninstalled it, backed up everything, exported my .sql file and took a deep breath. Why? Because 2 seconds later I deleted it all.
ON PURPOSE.
Gone, kaput.
And reinstalled through Fantastico’s Auto-Installer so I could, in the future, upgrade FASTER. You might have seen the wreckage if you clicked over yesterday. It takes a while to re-upload all my WordPress theme files, images, and the like. Importing the .sql was a bit of a pain, but I “think” I’m set now.
Here’s a warning to ya…if you haven’t upgraded your WordPress, DO IT.
Pssssst. There are still a couple of feed issues…dadburn’it all!
Okay, later.
I slipped in the kitchen
Raised up the lid
I stole me a mess o’ that shortenin’ bread…

Looks absolutely yummy!
Fantastico doesn’t always keep up with releases though. There *is* however a WP Automatic upgrade plugin which you can use form the backend of WP. :D
plugin here:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/
It backs up everything and prompts you to download and check. Easy-peasy for newbies too. Which I know you are not, but it’s still save a ton of work.
You can even tell it to use the nightly build if you wanted to live on the edge. ;)
I missed all the spam in your feed, which was odd.
@Andrea: I don’t believe that plugin works for Fantastico installations, otherwise I would have used it instead of bugging my server guy.
@Heather: There is still some wonkiness in your feed, I will send a screenshot. I notice only two blogroll images displaying now. Is this an adjustment you made, or do you have a link without the image on your blogroll? I found an incomplete on mine, so sometimes it displayed as two.
What? No soundbite of you singing the song? Color me disappointed (and insanely jealous of that care package…)!
Andrea - It isn’t Fantastico, but rather whether the server has installed the latest version. Ours does pretty well, so I’m good with that.
Thanks for the link - I’ll check it out.
witchypoo - Oh my Larry, what a mess. I have pinged it, deleted the youtube plugin, but it is still doing that in my feed. I imagine if I give it some time it’ll roll off.
Yea, when I removed the Blogher Ads, the space was shortened. I put EVERYONE on BOTH of the blogroll spaces and now only serve up 2, however, you have TWICE the chance of being there. :)
karen - Do you know my voice is STILL recovering from the 6 weeks of painful coughing? I did some damage there. Eek.
I LOVED that song when I was little. Check your stats soon, I found out that after I posted the words ‘mommas little baby loves shortenin bread’ I got a ton of hits looking for the lyrics.
:)
Now I have that song in my head too… arrggghhh!!
lol
Looks like a yummy breakfast!
I am now craving this lavender corn bread I ate two years ago on New Years Eve. Am now going to track down a recipe.
I’ve never heard of shortenin’ bread. What is it?
You feed in my bloglines looked all screwed up this morning… but it looks fine here.
I was having some trouble with my feed too, so I subscribed to it as well! And now it’s working … weird.
And hey, thanks for putting that SONG in my head!
Some of your readers are just too sweet!
I can’t get my update to take!
I usually lurk around a site for a while before commenting, but I just have to ask — do you have a recipe for that shortenin’ bread? It looks tasty, so I searched for a recipe. I’ve looked at several and each one has major differences from the others in either ingredients or cooking methods. Any tips?
glad i could help. most of the time i figure i’m a day late and a dollar short and don’t say nuffin. and thanks so much for putting that song in my head! i’m “hearing” my nanny singing to me like she used to. i’m gonna come huntin’ for you if it’s still in my head on monday morning though!
I’ll sing that song for DAYS now. :)
I can not believe there is another human being who has NOT heard of ShortBread. (shortenin’ bread, aka shortbread, southern fried in a pan or the kind I make/made for OMSH -after a few e-mails convincing me she had really never had any -Scottish Corn Bread, recipe right from my Scottish grandmother’s kitchen) Seriously, you guys don’t know what ShortBread is? That Walkers stuff or those Girl Scout Trefoils, don’t bother, that can’t touch this. Interwebs, I am totally biased. ;)
Even with a Fantastico install, you’re not immune since Fantastico doesn’t always know about upgrades right away. WordPress nagged me for a week once, and Fantastico told me, “We see no upgrades. Sorry, sister.”
At any rate, I’m glad it’s fixed now. I’m also glad you’ve finally had shortbread.
:hauls out the closeted Dixie chick: But dang, girl, ain’t you *Southern? How has it taken you this long to have some?!?
I have wondered forever just what shortening bread is. Never occurred to me it was shortbread.
