WHAT I'VE DONE…WHAT I'M DOING

Portfolio {pOrt-’fO-lE-O}

A short explanation.

There are a ton of ways I could display my portfolio, but nothing seemed as concise as a screenshot thumbnail and a mini-explanation. In most cases the site speaks for itself.

When viewing a portfolio remember web designers create FOR the client, based on the criteria/requests made by the client. I have some preferences across my designs, but again, my own preferences are often set aside to meet the aesthetic desires of the individual/business.

Disclaimer: Once I turn over a site design, unless I am the site manager, there are changes made by the client which affect the look and feel of the site. Of course, this is how it should be – a natural progression – but the site may not necessarily look or function the same as it did when I initially released it.

SHOUT-OUTS: Ree’s blog made it to TIME Magazine’s 25 Best Blogs of 2009 list as a “slick-looking site”.

BAKERELLA

Synopsis: This client did not need a designer so much as a Project Manager to lay-out and write-up specs for a complete PSD to XHTML conversion and integration into her own WordPress theme.

Bakerella’s strong design sense comes out in this “tasty” 3-column blog site. A compilation of a dozen unique templates and scripts, this blog is custom through and through. Bakerella wanted a publishing platform with ease of use; most specifically widgets, so she could move her sidebar graphics and modules around easily and seamlessly.

This blog customization has a few unique items; check out the visual category archives with the individual post thumbnails and the “lightbox” Amazon shop.

Initially at Blogger, part of this project was to import hundreds of posts, images, and thousands of comments into an independently hosted WordPress publishing platform.

SHOUT-OUTS: Loved by her readers, Bakerella is no newbie to online and off-line press; she even taught Martha Stewart the art of making Cupcake Pops!

SPEAKING OF SWEET… Bakerella’s blog made it in the Top 5 Best Designed Blog for the 2010 Bloggies!

AVENUE P STRATEGIC MARKETING

Synopsis: This client needed a website to showcase clients and services, as well as a blog for a dynamic, interactive element.

A “Static” Homepage at the main URL draws-in active content alongside static content and links, such as Service Offerings.

Several unique templates were created, and custom scripts written, to vary the sidebar content across the site/blog, to customize the “look” of polls and their results, display pop-up lightboxes for client websites, and to add custom field elements for highlighting previous client case studies.

RED PINE MOUNTAIN

Synopsis: This client wanted a new blog design to display her photos and share her life amid a 300 acre forest in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

A “Static” Homepage at the main URL pulls active content, as well as static content, to define the three primary categories she writes to, as well as showcases her photography in slide-show format.

This blog is a prime example of a Basic Design, with (1) Home Page Design, (1) Content Page Design, and (1) Individual Post Page Design. There are three unique templates and 2 custom scripts written for the home page and sidebar of the blog. Other functions use the default blogroll, links, and widgets.

DIAPER JUNCTION

Synopsis: This cloth diapering business needed a new face with fresh, clean lines to promote their cloth diapering and natural parenting products. Because of the nature of shopping carts, the redesign involved nearly 2 dozen template designs. I created the .psd design templates, graphics, and buttons, and then passed these files off with specs to 3dCart’s in house programmer at 3dCart to implement them.

Comprised of about 5 unique templates, including a static home page to draw and drive his active content, custom scripts were written for the home page, and the store – specifically, a “Look Inside the Book” feature, and a pop-up, lightbox for site visitors to “Preview” videos in Quicktime.

SUMMERLAND BAPTIST CHURCH

Synopsis: This church body had a strong vision for what they wanted. They knew there would be several people accessing the site, so we built it using WordPress, which allows for users to be assigned “roles” within the publishing platform.

Complete design, plugins, dynamic script elements, text, and images independent from the design.

LIFE AT BUTTERCUP FARM

Synopsis: Shawn is as close to the perfect client as a designer can get. She was prepared with a detailed creative brief when she emailed me about designing her site. Her vision was clearly constructed–she just needed a designer to put a “face” to her idea.

Complete design, customized WordPress theme and integration, plugins, dynamic script elements, text and image insertion.

MOVING HOUSTON INTERNET RELOCATION TEAM

Synopsis: This Keller Williams team needed a redesign that was bold, clear, easy to navigate and ‘popped’. I met with the team to discuss how the website should function and hear them to share their vision.

The project consisted of a complete redesign, plugins, insertion of real estate script elements, as well as multiple pages of text and images independent from the design elements.

I am in the process of updating my portfolio; current and previous design projects will be available to view in the upcoming weeks. Thank you for your patience.
