Hurricane Dolly came ashore southwest of us, and though we wouldn’t want to wish a hurricane on any specific area, we breathed a collective sigh of relief; after all, evacuation wasn’t part of the vacation agenda.
Though the storm surge was still pretty high along the shore this evening, when the rain stopped its sideways attack, we emptied out of the house like clowns from a circus car, and hit the shore to beathe FRESH air and stretch our limbs.
The wind still whipped around us a bit, but no one seemed to mind because we were OUTSIDE after all.
The kids ran straight to the water, barely hearing our cries to stay close and not let the water tease them out too far. Every 3rd or 4th crash the waves raced up all the way to the dunes in front of the house and then, just as quickly, pulled back out with a ferocious draw.
You could almost feel it taunting you, “Follow me! Follow me!”
Jeff’s brother brought a kite to see how well it’d fly in the fury, but our coaxing couldn’t get it up. It spiraled and took a nose dive as soon as it was released, breaking the framework in the second toss up.
Tomorrow’s weather promises to be better, so Jeff and Emelie did a practice run on the sandcastle we all plan on working together to build tomorrow.
And then, when it became too dark to adequately see each other, and the wind too strong to hear each other, we rounded the kids up and came back inside for the evening entertainment - a family talent show (more pictures from that later).

Nothing else in this world is like an evening on the beach…even if it’s freshly-stormed-on beach! I am so glad you all did not have to evacuate. Here’s to better weather tomorrow!
I hope tomorrow’s a calmer, sunnier day for you. And I’m glad you didn’t have to evacuate!
I have been a bit anxious, wondering about you… did not want to see you on the news! Certainly this will be a memorable vacation… one that will bring laughter and stories for years to come!
I love the ‘look’ of these pictures! And Emelie’s swimsuit - it’s super cute. =)
Your pictures are beautiful!
I’m glad you got outside for at least a few minutes of fresh air!

YEA FOR GOING OUTSIDE!! I’m glad everyone is safe and having a great time. That tide can be tricky :)
