Brain Bits

  • My mother-in-law sent this to Jeff and Kenny, but I've already played it 3 times with a high sherry count and I can't stop laughing. Oh my, people...don't drink and hunt; that's all I gotta say.

I gotta go back, back, back to school again!

Oh for the love of a lullaby.

My kids’ bedtime is my second favorite part of the day. My very favorite part of the day is when I wake up at 3:30 am to pee and realize I can get back in bed and SLEEP for at least 2 to 2 1/2 more hours. Ahhhh, precious sleep.

At any rate, at the kids’ bedtime I find that kiss-hugs are more special than at other times. Don’t worry - I don’t fool myself that my kids are that sentimental. I KNOW it is just another way to stay up a tad bit later; the old “Let’s stall mom and dad” tactic. I get it. I don’t care. I’ll take it where I can get it. There are usually a ton of zerberts, tickle-toes, sniffing of the belly-buttons and any other ticklish body part, rib counts, and my personal favorite - ear whispers.

The second reason I love my kids’ bedtime is entirely selfish. The house gets quiet. There is something sacred about the post-bedtime silence in a home that normally rages with the sounds of children torturing each other at play.

Riding the Bull

After prayers, Kenny likes nothing more than for me to crawl into bed with him and listen to him talk. And for some reason, at 8:00 pm that boy has enough subject matter stored up to write his own encyclopedia - who am I kidding … a SET of encyclopedias.

Kiss-Hugs

But there are times when he’s truly tuckered-out. On those days he’ll say,
“Momma - sing me a beautiful song.” and he lays down with his arm around my neck to listen.

After I holler for Mr. OMSH to bring a straw for me to suck up my melting heart, I reach into my mental hard drive to download a sweet lullaby or two just for him.

[lullaby 1]
[lullaby 2]

Anything for my boy.

Those are great songs! I sing such boring ones to my boys.. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Lullaby and Goodnight.

I might have to try the Monkey one…

You sing SO beautifully, thanks for sharing :-)

jenB - Those dead monkies have been putting kids to sleep for years in our family. :) And thank you for the compliment. :)

Michele - OH HOW I MISS YOU!!!!! Blog woman - for the love of God, BLOG! *smoooch*

Kami - We sort of do our own version of most syrupy songs. I try to be syrupy … I really do - I’m just not real good at it.
