Not too long ago I encouraged my dad to take a camera with him while on the road. I get a lot of good blog fodder when traveling and since he does a considerable amount of traveling in his work, I just knew he’d catch some good photo finds; he hasn’t disappointed me.

Last week he sent me a bit of geneology and now he sends this…

“Heather, today I needed a laugh and the Lord was faithful to provide.

I sat still in my car today for 45 minutes on Interstate 20 west of Dallas headed to Dad’s in Flint. There was an accident several miles ahead that had the entire freeway headed west closed. Frustrating…with an ice chest full of frozen meals for Dad that had already been in the trunk since driving up to Dallas Sunday evening.

So, I finally hit the Detour button on my GPS and it laid out a route off the next exit…the only trick was to ride the shoulder for about half a mile and then I was FREE! It worked.

But here’s the chuckle. I finally found the church I’ve seen before but could never find again. Reading the sign at 70 mph on a back country road, I made a u-turn followed the signs, and there were several, and finally arrived at the perfect picture to send to you.”

    “God is good.

Can you imagine the sermon material at this church?
Can you imagine giving a prayer request at this church?
Would you start a fund raising program for a building campaign?
Would you start a community outreach program?”

    The Reverend Parr.jpg

“Would you be a pastor if your last name was par with an extra ‘r’?
As a church member would you expect anything if your pastor’s last name was Parr?

    I’m still chuckling.

Love ya … be home tomorrow … Dad”

I’m still giggling each time I view these shots from the Ye of Little Hope Baptist Church and its “average” Reverend.

    Thanks Dad!

      So funny!

My favorite church is the Church of the First-Born in Belton. I love to take pictures of it and mail or email it to people who are NOT first-borns (like my sister, my husband, my mother, my father.) They know I’m kidding - and it’s not my fault Jesus knows the special burden of the oldest child!!

I love it! The Good Lord definitely has a sense of humor, and I love it when He shares it.

    3. Michelle

      LOLOL That is too funny!

We passed that same church this weekend! It reminds me of the church near us, Overcoming Faith Church. I’m sure they mean, “Faith That Overcomes” but it sounds like they’re trying to overcome their faith.

What a laugh! Maybe God sent the traffic so that your dad could give us some laughing medicine. Tell him Thanks! for me.

    6. Starwoodgal

      Now THAT is funny! :)

    7. Octamom

Love it! My husband and oldest daughter had a church they loved to drive by in one our previous locations because the signs out front of the building generally had some appallingly depressing message each week–can’t wait to show them this one!
      Blessings!!!

Now THAT is funny! I, too, carry a camera with me everywhere just in case I run across a gem like this one.

Oh - and I just thought I’d let you know that YOU were my inspiration to start my own wordpress site. (It is still in its infancy) Your Wordpress Wednesday posts were the BEST. I was so sad when you stopped. I would think that Wordpress would be happy . . . what with you encouraging folks to use their site. Just my humble opinion.
And a FABULOUS job you did on Pioneer Woman’s site. Awesome! I aspire to be as good as you one day. (but I highly doubt it)

      Have a great day!

Donna - Well, I wanted to start WordPress Wednesday this summer because I wasn’t supposed to be working, but I haven’t caught up with the “finish” on my work from the end of the school year…so I haven’t yet had a chance to clean up WordPress Wednesdays…it’ll come though - no worries!

      LOL …

Saw a Third Baptist Church sign.

Attended a Second Baptist Church in Springfield, MO.

      That is hilarious.

You might be a redneck if. . .

    12. Elda

I love that your dad takes the time to send you these emails. It makes my heart turn to mush.

    13. Geri C

Classic!! This is one of those great moments in life where you just have to sit back and enoy the irony.

    14. Stefani

Oh my. I’m not sure I’d even manage to get up on Sunday mornings.

    15. mary

      I love your dad.

    16. OMSH

Elda - I love it too. He’s always written me, especially in college.

      mary - me too. :)

    17. Mrs. Wilson

hee hee … I see where you get your sense of humor!

      Your dad is great!

    18. marigold
