i am a wife, mother, writer and web designer. balance is the challenge
i rise to everyday.
My mother-in-law sent this to Jeff and Kenny, but I've already played it 3 times with a high sherry count and I can't stop laughing. Oh my, people...don't drink and hunt; that's all I gotta say.

Not too long ago I ordered archive CDs of photos I took during the 3 years we spent stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. That was a difficult time, being so far away from family, but we met amazing people, found an unforgettable church body, and well … Jeff and I grew up as a couple. We needed those miles to establish our family - and we did. I look back on those three years with fondness and miss the people we fell in love with there.
One of the things I remember most is how Meredith loved to dance in this window. Kenny, always tagging along behind her, often crawled up here too. The couch was the perfect height for a makeshift stage and made for a soft landing when one or the other of them fell.
This was also the perfect place to wait for daddy at the end of the day. Jeff would call on his way home from Post and often Meredith and Kenny would wait for him at the window, while Emelie and I socked away with our books to read.
Wanting to greet his daddy at the door, Kenny would make his way down off the couch. Meredith, however, was not to be disrupted and marched on with wild abandon. She fully expected her daddy to come and greet her - the self-professed princess of the palace.
I don’t want to forget these moments ever. It’s the simple times like these that delight my heart.
Yes we were aware of the choking hazard posed by the strings on the blind. But we didn’t care. Besides, we had two other children.
Those were truly sweet times. And oh how they seemed to have flown by…every one of those memories was taken for granted by me…too self-absorbed , or stressed, or ignorant, or immature. Take your pick, they all seem to apply. How I love my family and would not trade any of them for anything.
“…But we didn’t care. Besides, we had two other children.”

You two are hilarious.
Such a match…with funny kids too.
Thanks for sharing
:)
So cute! And Aristocrats! I lovvvvvve wool diaper covers!! I suppose, with you being Jess’ friend and all, you would know all about their wonderfulness.
Mr. OMSH I was certain that you’d be the FIRST to point out the blind strings as a choking hazard. heh heh
C - Our home is a riot … what kind of riot? THAT is the question.
Celeste - That is actually a hand-knitted soaker with “got cloth” personalized on the back. :) I had it made special for Kenny.
Jess and I met because we both owned cloth diaper stores and frequented a cloth diapering board at Mothering.com.
Oh! I love these photos! The cuteness is UNBEARABLE!!!
So sweet!
I love the photo of the kids watching out the window, while Jeff walks up to the house. So sweet. And, yes, I thought the same thing about the blinds too, but I mean it’s not like they were standing at the window smoking, while waiting for Daddy…sheesh.
Hugs,
Michelle :o)
Wonderful photos…. and what a wonderful dancer!
Wondering… where and how do you order archive cds? That sounds like a wonderful thing.
That’s joy, right there.
My own DH says that the huge welcoming party every night after work is THE only reason to get up and go to work in the first place.
That uniform? Is it Canuck?
Love those pics!
love the photos, so sweet. so much fun to look back at our littles, isn’t it? We just watched some video when I was pg with #1, and then when he was born.
SO CUTE! What great memories…
Is she still as into ‘interpretive dance’ as she was back then?!
What amazing photos and a sweet story. Thanks for sharing - I needed something like this today.
Beautiful, amazing photos. And I love the new digs!
De-lurking to say:
When I found your blog thru another, I was hooked… now I know WHY! I live in Augusta, GA about 3 miles from Ft. Gordon. Talk about Providence… What are the chances I would happen upon the blog of someone who has lived in my hometown? AND your posts have been exactly what I needed lately to keep me motivated in my OWN “live better” campaign. BTW, I love the pics!
I came for your word press info (planning the switch) but I will stay for your everyday blogging…..
My girls do this too… dance in the window and sit and wait for Daddy to come down our long drive! Simply stunning photos!
Oh, well, they looked like Aristocrats in my shadows….I made my own wool soakers for my babies. I’m a wool fanatic.
I forget sometimes that people’s blogs I read are into things like that and it surprises me sometimes. :)
Beautiful. There is nothing like this kind of beautiful. My daughter is closing in on twenty. (GASP! TWENTY! Where did the time go?) And this kind of preciousness is certainly not lost on an elderly mommy like me. ;)
I have a picture of my daughter watching out the window for Daddy, too. It is one of my favorite snapshots. Aren’t photos full of memories wonderful?
