  • My mother-in-law sent this to Jeff and Kenny, but I've already played it 3 times with a high sherry count and I can't stop laughing. Oh my, people...don't drink and hunt; that's all I gotta say.

Hick-em-up Trucks

Most nights when I tuck Kenny in bed he says, “Mommy sing me a beautiful song.” As I can’t just sing the same old lullaby day after day, I have to come up with new ones.

This one came to me after an excruciatingly long battle with hiccups. I was humming it in the shower - hiccuping my way through each line. So? I built the hiccups into the song.

I still think it’s ridiculous grown-ups get hiccups - it reduces us to mere muppets or even those weird creatures from fraggle rock, but God has a great sense of humor, and this is one way He displays it through His creation. Who doesn’t like to laugh at with their children, right?

Without further ado, the lyrics are below.

And if you’re hankering to hear me sing it, I’ve provided a link.

Hick-em-up Trucks

by: ME!

Have you heard? *hick*
Have you heard? *hick*
Have you hea-*hick*-rd?
Of the hick-em-up trucks?

chorus
I got the hiccup, the hiccup, the hiccup, *hick*
I’ve got the hick-em-up-trucks.
(repeat)

I’ve got the hick-em-up-trucks.
(repeat 4x)

So, I called up my daddy,
He said lay on the floor.
Focus where they’re comin’ from…
And they won’t come back no more.

Well, I called up my preacher,
I said tell me what to do.
He said confess your sins…
Before the next full moon.

So, I called up my granny,
Can you help me please.
She said hold your breath…
And crawl around on your knees.

I called up my doctor,
I need some medicine.
What’s going on?
And he fit me right in.

He took a picture of my belly,
and that’s when we found out -
I got a frog jumpin’ round there…
and he’s jumpin’ all about.

He’s jumpin’ up - and down - and all around
I got the hick-em-up-trucks.
(repeat)

the end

If you can gather the strength to continue on, feel free to listen to it again. Or, y’know, NOT.

  2. Mrs. Wilson

That is too cool. Love it. Liliana loved it so much that she tried to sing along. It was more screeching than singing, but maybe she can learn from you!

  3. Aunt Betty

You quack me up! I know Kenny loves that one.

  4. A from TX

My 3 yr old looooved your song.

Hey! You are a great singer.

  5. ocjen

Wow! No wonder he always wants you to sing him a song. Great voice!

    Here’s another one for you:
The was a boy who liked to giggle
    And Kenny was his name-o
    K-E-N-N-giggle
    K-E-N-N-giggle
    K-E-N-N-giggle
    And Kenny was his name-o.

I used to sing this to Rapunzel when she was little, especially if she was upset. She always had to make the giggle sound and by the time we finished her name she was laughing and smiling. I even sung it to her in the hospital when she was strapped to the papoose screaming as they took the apple stem out of her nose. (It got stuck because she was trying to get out a booger.)

My computer won’t let me listen today. I tried earlier after I talked to you, and just tried again now. :(

    Cursed Vista!

    **shakes fist at the computer**

Glad that you posted the lyrics, though. You are a creative, funny woman!

  8. BOSSY

This makes Bossy want to grow a case of the Hiccups.

And speaking of trucks, Nice Pipes.

Another wonderful song. Kenny (and your girls) are so lucky to have such a talented mommy. Thank you for sharing. Both of my boys were dancing to the song when I listened to it yesterday.

P.S. I want to reserve a copy of your first CD now!

Dawn and ocjen - Thank you. :)

Mrs. Wilson and A from TX - OH! I love to know that a child singing along. Another friend said she downloaded it to her iPod so her boys could listen to it in the car on the way to school!

Aunt Betty - Yes! He does!

comfortablycrazy - I’m going to try that. I caught him giggling the other day. I need to upload that. Children’s laughter is absolutely divine and contagious!

Angella - Obviously it is turned off by my voice! HA!

BOSSY - “speaking of trucks, Nice Pipes” Are we talking exhaust pipes? bwahahaha. Seriously, thanks.

TheAngelForever - Oooh now we have dancing! Okay, it is officially a good day as I mustered up song and dance from chil’ens!

No CDs or DVDs in the future - I don’t think I could finance that and I’m not sending music out to anyone. Perhaps a scout will find my blog one day and say, “WOW!” Or, y’know, NOT.

Around here you inspired an interesting high chair boogie. To your credit he stopped eating his very favorite food, quesadilla, as soon as he heard you.

It never occurred to me to d/l your stuff to an iPod. My goodness, he would love that.
