We’ve been navigating birthday parties, clothes shopping, lawn mowing and many other things ’round here today. Tonight instead of posting I spent 2 hours going back through my own flickr photos. Seeing how the kids have grown and changed almost startled me. We’ve been in our new home for 2 years this Christmas. Two years. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.
I thought I’d share a few of my favorites.
One of my all time favorite photos of the year was this one of Emelie. Her elementary school offered a challenge to take a picture in a most unusual place to be found reading. The contest was called “Oh the Places You’ll Read” after the Dr. Seuss’ book, “Oh the Places You’ll Go!”. Ours won first place.
Toilet Graveyard.
Ah, my orange door. Doesn’t it make you smile? It doesn’t make Mr. OMSH smile; in fact, it is heresy. Why heresy? Well, because I’m an Aggie (Texas A&M University, WHOOP!) and our arch enemy rival is the Texas Longhorns. We’re maroon and they’re orange. Get the picture?
Yea, it was a true test of our marriage that I got to keep the door this color.
Meredith, Meredith, Meredith.
We call her Goldilocks - or Crabcakes. Whichever is relative to the moment.
I love this shot. I love Mer’s hand in the background.
This one serves as a reminder that even in Southeast Texas pigs can fly we can get a deep freeze.
Aunt Flo meets Betty Crocker OR Proof that my husband truly understands me. When he came back from Wal*mart with these, well…all I had to say was… “Baby, forget ‘Hello’, you had me at chocolate and tampons.”
Redneck bathing suit.
Grandpa.
I named this one Porcelain. I am amazed by how striking she is - such fair skin, bold and beautiful blue eyes and dark hair. A beauty, my Emelie.
Before training wheels there was the tricycle. He wants a motorcycle now. Jeff says he gets his first.
Real moms use videos as babysitters.
Real moms multi-task.
Between photoshoots. Don’t they look thrilled as can be?
There are many, many others, but it is 11:30 and I was supposed to be in bed an hour ago.
Happy weekend all!
YEAH aggies, WHOOP!! :) Love me some A&M. :) and i love your pictures, they’re adorable and lovely. thanks for sharing!
Whoop! It’s not quite *burnt* orange…I think you’re off the hook. ;)
Toilet graveyard = awesome. Where do you find one of those? =)
Isn’t it great to look back through photos and see how things have changed? Thank God for digital cameras.
Happy weekend to you, too!
Happy weekend to you!!!
Gorgeous photos (as always) capturing your year and beautiful family. It always amazes me how quickly kids grow and change.
Fabulous photos!
I thought I was the only oe who spent tub time on her laptop - seems I’m in good company :-)
What great photo’s. Glad I found your blog!
WOW. Every one of those shots are amazing! What kind of camera do you have?
Love the toilet graveyard and the orange door!
I loved this post! I, too, love looking through old photos. Kids change SO FAST.
:)
Gorgeous photos.
I am wondering is that you taking the picture with Mer’s hand in the background…in the van?
Whomever that is, her hair is GORGEOUS!!!! I love to see a woman with grey/whit hair and not afraid to wear it. Stunning!!!
You’re an aggie? An AGGIE?! WOOOP. Dude. I had no idea. And I thought I loved you before.
Gig’em
Loved the toilet graveyard.
LOVE the toilet graveyard picture!!! It’s no surprise you won that contest!! You’re a gifted photographer; all the shots are great! I love the ‘redneck swimsuit’ and the ‘real mothers use videos as babysitters’ ones, too. Nice to know I fit right into the ‘real-redneck-mom’ category!!
Those photos are amazing. You should quit the day job and become a photographer.
You’re a pro. I always enjoy your pictures!
Your photos really are spectacular.
Heather - Gig’em! And thanks!
ashpags ‘06 - I swear, I was just driving down back streets looking for something interesting and it caught my eye. We sorta had to trespass to get it, but um… all for the sake of the photo, right?
bethany actually - Yes, it is nice to look back, but sad at the same time. I’m seeing how fast my kids are growing up and not wanting to miss a moment of it in my own self-absorption. I have a lot of growing up to do before they are grown and gone!
TheAngelForever - Thank you…and it has been a happy weekend!
Colleen - Thank you. :)
Lisa Clarke - Indeed you are. :) Normally he showers with his daddy, but sometimes a good bath is in order to soak the black stains from the trampoline off his knees and toes.
Jennifer:Wilson-six - I’m glad you found me too! Stick around - sometimes I actually WRITE! :)
Michele - I have a Nikon D70. Jeff bought it for me in 2004 with his severance pay from the military. I feel completely and totally spoiled by this camera. I take it everywhere.
Angella - So.very.fast. Thank you. :)
chocolatechic - Yeppers, that’s me. :) My hair is nearly totally grey now - except for the back. I’ve been greying since I was 17 or 18. I colored it until I hit 30 and then I gave up and accepted it full force.
Mrs. Flinger - Yes ma’am! Class of ‘94! WHOOP!
Jack - Me too. I still grin when we pass it.
Valleygirl - Oh girl, I could totally go redneck on you. Kids in clothes? Huh? Whuh? They aren’t supposed to jump on the trampoline naked? That’s inappropriate? Whuh?
Kris - I might not like it if people EXPECTED me to take good photos! HA! Right now photography is fun without any stresses. I’m keeping it that way. But thank you, thank you, thank you. :)
Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. G. - You both are too kind.
Oh my gosh…no way. You’re an Aggie??
I’ve been reading your blog this long and didn’t know that? I knew there was a reason I liked you. =)
My husband went to grad school at A & M (’96 - ‘02). And we just purchased a house with a burnt-orange dining room. It’s gorgeous! But, oh man, how it makes poor Russ cringe.
Wow, great photos, every one. I just love that last one. And the one before that made me laugh. (No laptop here.)
Hell will freeze before my DH even touches a box of tampons, LOL.
Love the red door, too. What a great little-boy picture.
I absolutely adore this post. You have a great eye and a wonderful technique.
I also wanted to know that you have been tagged as a Rockin Girl Blogger :)

We do the same redneck bathing suit!
We just have more underwear than swimsuits on hand, and when you roll around in the grass/mud, yeah. :)
Love the photos. My own digital camera sprouted legs, walked out of the house, jumped on the back bumper of our Suburban, and was driven over. Crushed. And NOBODY will admit to having left it there!! Anyway, I have been without a digital camera for something like 7 or 8 weeks now, waiting for a new one to arrive that keeps getting back-ordered. Tracking says it’s on its way as I type this; I CAN’T WAIT! Cuz photos ‘R’ phun.
The Biscuit needs his nap so this is short. Love the photos, love the recap-the-year idea. Super-love the link to the next post at the bottom of the page!
That does it, I am packing up the baby and my checkbook and driving down to Houston so you can take pictures of him. You are so gifted with a camera.
Kristy - Yes I am an Aggie! Class of ‘94! Whoop! Oh wait - I already said that above. Ah, Aggie pride comin’ through.
momto3cubs - Mr. OMSH understands that a little bit of “help” in the toiletry pick-up department always pays off in the end. heh heh
Lib - Thanks for the Rockin’ Girl Blogger award! You are kind to consider me!
Lanna - I do believe we have more mud than swimsuits or underwear!
Meg - Thank you. Digital cameras, I know, can make things come to life. I’ve yet to see a digital camera make itself come to life. THAT is amazing.
I would shrivel up and die if I was without my digital camera for 7 to 8 weeks. Okay, not die - but definitely shrivel up.
KYouell - That link? FOR YOU! *smooch*
Skye - Thank you! We’re in Huntsville. It takes approximately 3 1/2 hours to get here from the capitol.
Huntsville, Houston… I knew it was somewhere beginning with an H!
