My mother-in-law sent this to Jeff and Kenny, but I've already played it 3 times with a high sherry count and I can't stop laughing. Oh my, people...don't drink and hunt; that's all I gotta say.

I swear I want to throttle this couple. HOW IN THE WORLD could they become so engrossed in video games that their children nearly starved, among other atrocities. I joke about internet addiction, but this … this is another caliber altogether.

you know what really ticks me off? (soory one handed typing… baby at boob…) is that they are blaming it on the internet. it makes me so angry that people don’t take responsibility for their own actions… “oh, i didn’t feed/bathe/LOVE my child for months and months, but it can’t be my fault!”
give me a break. and was this couple malnourished at all? THEY had time to feed themselves!
sorry heather, should have made this my own blog post!
Jamie’s right about how disgusting it is that they don’t even take responsibility for their actions. Of course, their actions are deplorable and I wouldn’t expect a person who did something like this to have any kind of decency to own up to what they did.
Wow, that’s a new one. I have trouble not judging such people.
That’s disgusting. Those poor children. There are so many people out there desperate to adopt a child or have a baby and can’t, and here these two neglect their precious little miracles. I hope the babies recover completely and find happiness in the future, and that their parents get what they deserve. Somehow, 12 years in prison isn’t enough. They should be starved and neglected so they know what it feels like!
I think it is a real addiction, and while allowing a child to almost starve is deplorable, I feel badly for the parents. Who knows if they’ll get the therapy and help they so obviously need in our prison system.
jamie and Jill - GlossyVeneer - I take issue with their use of blame too. The internet cannot make any of us “do” anything. We succumb. It is a big ol’ computer in the sky.
I’m big on “owning up”.
Kami - I do too. And I don’t think that we aren’t to “judge” … just with reserve (the whole “plank in my eye seeing your splinter” concept).
I have been so caught up in my work that lunch has passed me without thinking to feed the kiddos. It isn’t everyday, but it does/has happened. It seems there are degrees though. And this is to a degree I don’t get.
Aileen - My first reaction is I want people to get what they give. Of course I don’t want to get what I deserve, but I want others to. *wink*
kerflop - It IS a real addiction, I agree. But the parents did feed themselves. If they were also suffering from malnutrition I might be able to buy into feeling sympathy - but they fed themselves and ignored the children.
No, they likely won’t get the therapy they need, but they will be able to break the addiction and perhaps have a good long while to consider their actions.
I went to the local Reno paper’s site and someone posted a link to the parents’ respective Myspace pages in the comments.
The saddest part for me is that those kids are close to my kids’ ages. All the hard work we’ve done to make sure that The Biscuit develops properly and recovers from his heart surgeries and these to go and give a perfectly healthy child problems. They just didn’t realize how lucky they were when they gave birth to healthy kids. So sad for those babies.
Sigh.
