Everybody has a water buffalo?
No I’m not prepping for some crazy Battle of the Bands between ZZ Top and Billy Ray Cyrus. Why then am I all business in the front and party in the back?
This get-up is for a water buffalo.
Yes, a water buffalo.
This year the boys and girls at my church’s VBS are raising money to purchase a water buffalo for a South Asian family. Why? Because water buffalos provide transportation, pull ploughs, haul carts, and even give milk (I had no idea). For a South Asian family it’d be much like hitting the lottery – y’know, except not.
And so I dress like this for a purpose – to make about 80 kids laugh and then the other reason …
… to disguise myself.
“No, I’m not Ms. Heather.”
“Oh no! Not me!”
“Ms. Heather has left for the day – I’m a friend. I’ve come to pick up Kenny.”
See, “Ms. Heather” has agreed to have a pie thrown in her face if the boys win the missions fundraiser. Now, if the girls win, Ms. Heather gets to throw a pie in Mr. Monte’s face (the children’s minister).
As of the first day, when I agreed to this mess, the girls were only marginally behind (see below).
Today the girls were nearly $150.00 behind the boys. And although that is good for the South Asian family who certainly will receive a water buffalo no matter who gets creamed on Friday … it is not so good for me, Ms. Heather … a.k.a. Pie Face.

16 have spoken up.

“Everybody’s got a water buffalo, yours is fast and mine is slow… everybody’s got a water buffalooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”
That’s hawt.
Friglet
You’re such a cool mom!
karen
I tuned in next time and got the baby kangaroo. I’m curious – are mine the only kids who pick bulk potatoes out of the store bin and waltz around the produce section, singing the VT theme song?
Aileen
I’m going to love looking at the pie in the puss photo. :) Oh… I mean… shucks… that’s too bad Heather. Be strong!! Take one for the water buffalos!
stephanie
If you see Miss Heather, please tell her she’s a Rockin’ Girl Buffalo Blogger in my book. :)
You know we are waiting for the pie pictures.
I love that you’re buying a buffalo with the kids, what an amazing for all involved. Are you using Project Heifer?
stephanie
“…an amazing GIFT for…”
OMSH
coolbeans – EXACTLY!
friglet – you’re so sweet. Kenny sat on the front row of assembly all wide-eyed screaming, “That IS MY MOMMA! She has on a wig!” Y’know, b/c NO ONE KNEW THAT.
karen – You are NOT alone. Oh no, you are NOT alone. Emelie usually finds the asparagus and screams, “Look! It’s Junior!” Y’know, because after doing it 100x it still doesn’t get old.
Aileen – I’m going to be at the mercy of another with the whole pie in the face picture. I’ll lend someone my camera for that ONE MOMENT. Otherwise, no one is EVER allowed to use my camera. I’m a camera snob.
stephanie – That’s it! I need to make a rockin’ Girl Buffalo Blogger button! bwahahahaha!
Seriously though – we are going through GFA for the water buffalo.
Laura/PFG
does that make you their cheeseburger, then? :)
Kami
Wow, you are a brave woman. First to go out in public in that get up and then with the whole pie in the face thing…
For a great cause though :-)
lynsgirl
Darnit! Now that song is IN MY HEAD!
That is a great mission goal for VBS, though. And I love when it’s boys vs. girls – our VBS kids get into that pretty intensely lol. Everybody’s on the edge of their seats waiting to hear who won for the day :D.
I hope for your sake that the girls have a giving surge lol.
Jen
Oh how I love VBS – the water buffalo is a cool idea! I love the getup – hilarious!
Grandpa is his name.

No, No, No. Everybody does NOT have a water buffalo. We’re going to get nasty letters . . .
Everybody’s got a baby kangaroo, . . .”
OMSH
Laura/PFG – no, I’m Pizza … with onions (love them layers). Oh wait, that’s Shrek. oops
Kami – I didn’t have to “go out” in public, but rather “stay in” in public. Which is altogether MUCH easier! *snort*
lynsgirl – Well, we did get a surge. One man and a wallet with a heart for his granddaughter and missions. Phew!
Jen – Thanks. We raised the most money ever raised in VBS at that church. It was a riot!
SmocknMama – Exactly.
Carole

Carole – My comments time out after 4 or 5 days (can’t remember right now) to reduce the amount of spam in my box. As it stands I get around 200/day! GAH!
Thanks for loving the songs and me singing them. I have so much fun with songs/making up songs for my kids. We are rather odd around these here parts.
Comment if ya wanna.
