So Jessica got me hooked on the Bissell Steam Mop. She’s got a ‘thing’ for cleaning gadgets, so I’ve always waited for her to purchase them, try them out, and then give her reviews.
I figure it’s the least I can do as a supportive friend. heh heh
Meredith likes using the Bissell - she says it’s like magic. While Emelie scrubbed away at the ring-around-the-tub in the kids’ bathroom, Meredith got busy on the kitchen floors. First she vacuumed, and then she mopped.
One of the commentors on flickr, maren6300, asked if the Bissell Steam Mop cleans grout. Jessica responded that it doesn’t - which is true.
I had to laugh at Jessica’s next comment:
Heather doesn’t worry about her grout, I don’t think, but I can’t handle mine getting all gross…
It’s true. I don’t put up a stink about grout. I just can’t. I figure grout just turns color and in the interest of my sanity, I’ve come to consider it ’seasoning’. Besides, I don’t frequently crawl around licking our grout and since I’m certain dark grout = aged grout; I’m good with it. Kinda like a fine wine - gets better with age, right?
And now, all of y’all will decide that I’m just that dirt-dirty Texas gal with nasty grout, right?
Well, you’ll be right.

I think you just made me throw up with the thought of you licking your dirty grout. Hard to say though, I might have thrown up anyway given my current “situation”.
Hmm, we should make a list. How many things have I convinced you to buy? Was your Dyson my fault? Your Nikon? Your Flor tiles? A Mac for sho’, the Bissell, a PLANE TICKET TO IDAHO (hee)… your bank account totally LOVES ME.
p.s. that super helpful review on the Amazon listing for the Bissel? The one at the top, from Navyblue? TOTALLY ME. Yeah, baby, yeah. Though I don’t know why I wrote that we have four dogs, we only have two.
Five words for you:
Embrace the Grey-Tint Grout.
Tinted grout is on my “must have” list for our eventual non-rented home, along with darker slate or tile floors, hardwood that’s already scratched up a little, and pre-installed minor dents in at least one doorway.
You mean your grout wasn’t always that color? I like Liz C.’s idea of pre-installed minor dents and pre-scratched hardwood floors.
Dudes, my next house won’t have ANY tile in it. I’m so sick of fighting grout I’m ready to have wall to wall wood floors (pre dented, of course). So much easier as far as maintenance goes if you ask me.
I’ve had my eye on the Shark steam cleaner. I’ve read nothing but good reviews about it so I’ve got it on my list. I have an older steam mop, but the thing must weight a gazillion pounds! I love how clean the floor is after using that thing though!
We just have LOTS of wood floors. I’m kinda liken the “NO GROUT” in this house. Wood has it’s problems too though. Wish I had a crawling baby to strap on some cleaning cloths to the knees. :)
Must! Try! I wonder if it can tackle my old, dirty vinyl linoleum in the kitchen. We have a carpet steam cleaner that is, as Emelie says, like magic - the dirt that thing picks up is unbelievable!
Re pre-scratches, my mom tells me that when my sister and I were tots, she was ordering a new wooden table, and the clerk provided her with a selection of finishes from which to choose, one of which was “distressed.” She replied, I have two little kids, the table will be “distressed” soon enough!
I’d put one of these on my wedding registry, and it just came in the mail the other day. I can hardly wait to give it a try. Perhaps I need to purchase some extra mop heads though.
I never clean my grout either! And I have tile counter tops too! (I do spray and wipe them at least twice a day, but scrubbing/bleaching the grout? No thanks!)
I don’t particularly care about my grout either. Except for the bathtub where we wash Bri. She does have a habit of putting everything in her mouth these days, so I try to be extra careful.
I linked to you today, in my post about inspirational bloggers. Check it out!
I went on a mission last night to find one of those. No such luck though so I guess I’ll be ordering one from Wal-mart online and the shipping’s only .97 cents!
I’m still waiting for a machine that does grout–I have the Floor Mate and it has a grout attachment and all that–but it still requires an OCD-Grout-Cleaning psyche button that I apparently do not have!
Your floors look great! Now I’m feeling all inspired to go do a thorough scrubbing!
Blessings!
I’m with you, with everything to do in a day I can’t even entertain the thought of cleaning grout. I’ll take my seasoned thanks.
