Children ID Buttons

I am all for child safety; heck I even purchased some of these child safety tattoos for field trips; but are things like Child Identification Buttons truly a good idea OR are they just feeding on our parental fears for our children?

In an emergency, I would never think to look at a kid’s button for information, and if they’re old enough to say, “Hey, look at my button!” they’re old enough to learn their own name and phone number!

In the past few weeks, I’ve seen the ID tattoos, these buttons, USB flash drives to keep kids’ medical info, bracelets…. It seems to me that if an ID system isn’t standard, it’s not going to do any good, because nobody is going to know where to look.

I have 4 and never managed to lose one. I tried hard though! LOL [I am just kidding]

Wouldn’t it be more dangerous for kids to wear id easily seen and noted?
Could just be a different outlook here in Oz though, but I’d be putting my hand up for feeding on parental fears rather than it being practical.

I agree with Amy. If I came upon a missing child I would never think to look at his buttons. I did share the tattoo idea with the teacher of the autistic class, but this is just a waste of money imho.

I think the tats are a great idea for group outings like field trips. I’ve never seen them before!
But I’m with “Amy” on the buttons.

I too agree with Amy. For trips to the amusement park, I write my cell number on the inside of my son’s arm. Sure, it fades as the day goes on, but $20 plus shipping for tattoos is a little high. And what if you have to change your cell # before they’re used up?

Hm… I don’t really see much difference between buttons and tattoos. As everyone else has mentioned, it’s ALL making things far too complicated than they need to be.

I kinda liked the idea and emailed the company. They said they are starting to put “codes” instead of phone numbers on these buttons. The codes go back to databases held by police departments. MUCH better idea.

We are thrilled with the conversation about our buttons and listening carefully.

You guys might like reading the “about us” page - it kinda spells out the differences to some extent. In many cases, both make sense.

Naturally we think the buttons are great and in their own niche, but realize it takes some time to become something EMT workers might look for.

But for the far more common scenario where a young child who is just lost, they can show the buttons to someone by pointing at them. For kids with disabilities or verbal problems, there might be benefits as well.

If you get the chance, stop by and read our about us page.

Please keep the conversation going, comments or complaints, good or bad.

This is, after all, about happy endings :-)
