Hi! I have just switched over to Wordpress from Blogger and am having to tweak my posts to get them to look good. One thing that I just cannot figure out is how to add spaces in between my paragraphs and pictures. Placing for a line break does not work in the html code…I have tried everything I can think of and still cannot find a solution. CAN YOU HELP??? If you check out my page, you can easily find out what I’m talking about.
    Thank you!

I want to be a WordPress Millionaire. I’ll share 50/50 with you :)

  3. OMSH

Sunshine Crawford - I emailed you.

tHeSocKmOnKeY - Bwahahaha! YOU are talking to the wrong woman. I want to make a living, but millionaire? I think that’d take too much time and my life is too short. *snicker*

  4. Michele

YES! I’m a reasonably intelligent human being who knows her way around html. I use a designer for the design so I don’t screw it up, and then all updating and tweaking is mine. I CANNOT UPGRADE. I have tried. But it keeps asking for ftp information, and I have no clue how to FIND it. Driving me nuts, since I don’t want to pay my designer $85 and hour for something that I SHOULD be able to do myself.

Sunshine - check out her last WW post - it’ll solve your problem!!

OMSH, I’d love to learn a little more on how to tweak my layout thinger. And what the deuce is XHTML? How does it differ from HTML? I’m sorry if you already answered those questions … I’m going to do a little research to see if you have.

Um … I know I have bazillions of other questions, I just have to remember them!

  6. OMSH

Michele - I emailed you, but your FTP information (for anyone else curious) is found typically in a Welcome letter from your web host when you set up your web hosting account.

If you have a designer or webmaster, ask them and they will have it.

Mrs. Wilson - What are you wanting from your layout “thinger”?

HTML and XHTML are both markup language (code). HTML is more flexible and XHTML is more rigid. There is a better explanation here.

Oh, I have the same problem as Sunshine Crawford! Sometimes I want nice big spaces between text and photos and I put them there with the enter key or the html code, and they disappear! I know I have plenty of other problems, I just can’t think of think of them now. I can’t wait for Wordpress Wednesdays!

Oh thank you! I installed a new theme and the sidebars aren’t wide enough..well, it looks like that to me in IE7. They look ok in Firefox, I guess but I would like to know how to make them wider if possible. I know some basic html, but I don’t know diddley squat about css, etc. Plus, when I try to put stuff in my sidebars, they end up way at the bottom of the column. Am I doomed?

  9. OMSH

Di - No, not doomed. Sidebar adjustments are usually fixed easily within the theme’s CSS. The problem is that you have a fixed graphic background, so if you widen your sidebars, it will exceed the graphic’s width. Whenever background graphics don’t ‘grow’ or ’shrink’ with a site, you are very limited on modifications to width.

The CSS tag on your stylesheet even says it: feminine, three columns, fixed width, widget ready, option page, print

I’m afraid you’re stuck with this design’s narrow sidebars.

my request is simple…a freakin’ walk in the park. but of course i am still so dense i can’t figure out what to do.
i have a domainb name…two in fact but i don’t know hoiw to make my wordpress blog “:point” to one of those domain names. it is so simple it is too hard for me i am saying in ,my absolutely whiniest voice.

  11. OMSH

You’re in luck Laura! I’ve already written a tutorial on how to point your Domain Name Servers to your blog (it is the other way around from what you’re thinking - you point the domain name to your server space).

    Read here.

OMG. You are going to be so sorry I landed here today. I will hound you now with questions! Let’s start simple - how can I put my photo in the sidebar to personalize my page?

  13. Kuky

Ooooh yes I have something. Site navigation. Can you please talk about that?

When I was on Blogger, I liked the archives. I could have a month’s worth of archives showing, so for example the entire month of September without any next pages. And on my front page I could limit the amount of posts, say to only 7. On Wordpress it’s universal.

Even better would be something like Typepad, where they have monthly navigation and it’s easy to move between the monthly archives. I like less clicking.

Trackbacks. What are they? How are they different from me just linking to you or you writing a post that links to me? How do I do it on someone else’s blog — as in do I have to have my post published first? And how do I set them up so it is easy for people to trackback to me on my blog?

  15. Linda

I’d love to know how blogs are able to have banner ads in the right or left columns, that are different on each page/post. The theme I’m working with displays the same content in the columns on every page. Is this what plug-ins are for? I don’t have advertisers beating down the door (yet), but I wanted to choose the correct theme functions to run ads in the future. Really looking forward to your Wednesday articles! Thanks
