This is my sweet cousin, Bayleigh. Actually, she’s my 2nd cousin, or as some would correct me, my 1st cousin, once removed. WHATEVER. She’s related to me and I think she’s pretty special.
In fact, she might actually be as close to perfect as a 1st cousin, once removed can get.
I won’t lie and say that she was absolutely happy the whole time she was here; she wasn’t. She seemed to have some gurgly belly bubbles that irritated her quite a bit.
I know this because she slimed me a couple of times, but after each explosion, she seemed to feel much, much better. And hey, I can handle baby vomit if the baby is smiling when it is all over, can’t you?
Of course, after spewing forth some nasties Bayleigh needed some cleaning up, plus we were certain it’d calm her considerably - or at least, that’s what we remembered from our kiddos. So, Emelie ran a “baby warm” bath and as she crawled into the bath to hold Bayleigh on her legs, I cleaned the little sweet pea from head to toe … once, twice, maybe even three times. Who’s counting?
I haven’t been able to bathe a baby in a while - I forgot how wonderful it is to watch them “feel” their legs in the water. You’ve got to wonder if they remember that feeling from the womb - or maybe not - maybe we just like to think that. Either way, she enjoyed her bath.
And after her bath she was rubbed down with the best smelling baby oil of all time, Burt’s Bees Baby Bees Apricot Baby Oil. I can smell it throughout the house now.
Ahhhhhh.
Meredith shared her blankie with Bayleigh, “…just for the night” - and after the kids visited with her for a while, we put her to sleep in our bed.
I check on her every 15 seconds or so.
I would say that’s normal.
And no, I didn’t ask you. :)

Alright, that’s enough. Pop her in a box with that baby oil of hers and ship her over to her Auntie Stef now, okay? :-)
She is an angel. Of this I am sure.
Oh my stars. I think I just felt my uterus twitch.
So cute. Love the big sis picture. Well, big cousin, but she is also a big sis and it shows in that pic, I think.
Bayleigh is totally scrumptuous! The apricot baby oil only added to her overall yumminess, I am sure.
Annalie tossed a “WHATEVER” at me over her shoulder today in response to a question I’d asked her, and she got a stern talking-to. I’m just sayin’. ;-)
The funny thing is, when we asked her where she’d heard that before, she said, “Stinky Pete the Prospector!” Ah. We have watched Toy Story 2 a time or two or twenty.
So sweet!
SO SWEET!
Great, now my ovaries are aching from that sweetness.
Please tell me you smelled her head and nibbled on her toes?
I babysat my friend’s baby all night on Friday night. Isn’t it fun when you haven’t had a baby around for a while to get that little glimpse back? I actually love to change her diaper and get her lotion on her and snuggled in her pajamas. Why do babies have to grow up?
Mandy- So they can make grandbabies, duh.
What a pretty baby.
She is SUCH a good baby! And so interactive.
The first thing I do when I have someone’s baby all to myself is give them a bath!! And I usually use the Burts Bee’s Buttermilk wash and creme, the scent really lasts long! And then, if it is a boy I might paint their toenails and then see how long it takes the mom to notice.
My best friend’s baby took 3 full days!!! Yes, she was mortified that I had found out she hadn’t bathed her baby in 3 days. Hello!!! Good thing I did!
Gosh, she is so adorable….
Oh I LOVE the last pic!!
Hmmm… gotta look for that Burt’s Bees oil for our own prone-to-smell-odd baby, currently griping and creeping around the base of my computer chair. I have a feeling she should *not* be crawling at 6 months, that somehow this is not fair.
What a sweet little baby to play with! She’s a very pretty thing, isn’t she?
Okay, I know you didn’t ask … but that is SO normal to me! Ha!
I’m glad you had fun babysitting! She looks like SUCH a sweet little girl! (And her name rhymes with Kaylie, the best name EVER.)
So precious.
What a nice treat.
Love your web site, I’ve checked in periodically and read more regularly lately. Since I decided blogs were my new drug!! SAHM’s need all the “drugs” they can get!! ;)
About that baby: Be still my ovaries!!!
Beautiful!!!
There is nothing more perfect than a great smelling baby.
I love Burt’s Bees apricot oil.
What a beautiful, beautiful baby.
oh, she makes me want to…
NO! I WON’T PUT MY BODY THROUGH THAT AGAIN!
sorry. panic attack. must apply burt’s bees lip balm now…
I think Bayleigh is a beautiful baby. She is pretty cute too.
how about if you babysit my kids … will you take amazing pics of them as well? Love all of these shots, but that last one is just beautiful!
beachmom - Where are you? I might be able to swing it. :)
