So, I set out this morning to take “honest” pictures throughout my house to upload to the Honest Photography group Jessica started yesterday.

I had already uploaded my pic I took of the contents under the bathroom sink (thanks to all who participated - please keep ‘em coming), but she had gone a step further, walking about her home and snapping off pics.

So, I started walking and taking pics. Then I uploaded them. Then I realized they weren’t so bad, in fact, my house looked pretty decent on camera. And that’s the honest, untouched, truth.

So here’s the question - just because my house wasn’t a wreck, should I still upload the pictures to the group? I mean, it is HONEST, right? Would it help if I talked about my sticky kitchen floor, the pink mold in the shower, the ring around the toilet or the mud smears on the tile by the back door? Will people throw cyber tomatos at me?

    My creation

Added note: I’ve had a couple of emails and a flickr comment regarding my folded sheets. Seriously, it isn’t hard. So everyone knows just how easy it can be, I have provided a link to Martha Stewart’s “How to Fold a Fitted Sheet” tutorial, complete with pictures. HOWEVER, that said, I should tell you that even though MS thinks she’s coined the whole household decor and care gig, I learned this way back in the day … before her prison time and when I was about 6. MY MOM taught me. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t all MS’s idea.

OH! And speaking of sheets, I need your help. I had a request to check out this answer to folding and storing sheets. The request was for me to post it on my shopping blog if I liked the idea. Jeff and I have watched the video about three times and we have our opinion, but I want yours. What do you think and why? Does this interest you?

Hey, honest is honest, you know? SHARE.

It’s strange how it doesn’t always seem so bad when you remove yourself from it with a picture. Some people think my place is tidy from pictures and I look around at the explosion of mess and think, “are you crazy?!”

I’m dumping my pictures now which includes an under-the-bathroom-sink shot. :)

Sherry, so true. I actually felt a little gleeful. In my mind I know that I need to do some DEEP CLEANING, but hey, I’m surface clean … does that count?

      kerflop - did it. Uploaded.

Yeah, I kind of wondered if I should just go take photos of my bad spots. But maybe I’ll go wander around my whole house and take pictures.

I’ll have to try MS’s techniques for folding sheets.

As for that sheet folding contraption, it certainly makes nice, neat bundles. I bet I would have a messy bunched up sheet at the other end from where I was starting with that tool though. (And I was surprised by the video. It was more professional than what I expected from the look of the web site!) I kind of want to try it now though…

      nursing + typing = shorthand

took pics, will get more up soon

fitted sheet folding - ditto, doin’ it before MS

MS often ’steals’ ideas and sells them as her own - origami t-shirt folding was not her idea either

didn’t watch video, but see no need in spending that amount of money for something that stays in my sheets - would need too many - have two sets of sheets for every bed (there are eight of us) - also, i fold sheets so that i can store them between the mattresses of each bed

    6. OMSH

smocklady THAT IS SO SMART. Seriously I have never heard of storing sheets between mattresses. Hmmmmm…

Your house is ADORABLE, clever, and wonderful!

    8. some girl

I loved these pictures even though they made me feel guilty for surfing Flickr and not getting off my ass and cleaning my house!

      LOL, MWAH!

    9. OMSH

jessica - thank you so much. My house, messy, cluttery, or clean is my haven. I really enjoy being home and in it.

some girl - Can’t you ask one of your gnomes to stir up some magic for you? Perhaps while you sleep? I swear I’m gonna get me one of those - or two, or three … SOON!

I love the store the sheet between the mattress idea! All the free spacve I’ll have in my linen closet and the sheets will be right there when I strip the beds. Excellent. I am unimpressed by the sheet folding contraption. I could use a piece of cardboard to do that. Also, I’m glad you uploaded the pictures. Pictures of a cleaner than mine house are great inspiration that people with kids CAN have a clean house, not just one room at a time. My photos are on the camara, ready for upload.

Abbey - I don’t have as large a space as some though! What’s your flickr name?
