A surprise visit from The Evicted Gall Bladder

I don’t know about you guys, but I am of the opinion that ONLY good things can come from polka-dot boxes. This box reminds me of one of my favorite Dr. Suess books as a kid, Put Me in the Zoo.

I am of the opinion only good things come in polka-dot boxes.

The box was from Bethany Actually and Secret Agent Josephine.

Opening it I immediately see an envelope addressed TO ME (of course) and made from a recycled magazine page. Smart girls, aren’t they? Gotta love smart girls who use what is at their fingertips for their creativity.

Recycled envelope from a magazine page.

And apparently they are fast at work passing that creativity on to their sweet gals, Annalie and Baby Bug (whose photos, by the way, both adorn my refrigerator).

Annalie and Baby Bug made cards too!

In honor of my gall bladder eviction, Brenda packed in one of her creations, Sludgie, The Evicted Gall Bladder.

Sludgie - The Evicted Gall Bladder

Why would someone create something as putrid as a green, felt gall bladder with googly eyes? Find out here.

Let’s just say when she found out my gall bladder was acting up she was the first to contact me with a “DO NOT EAT FATS!” Anyone who has had a gall bladder attack looks at fat as the enemy; it is the precursor for rolling about on the ground/bed/bathroom floor writhing, crying and moaning.

There was more in the package - they also included mini gel pins for the kids, a bag of Sour Skittles (My favorite candy…AND? No fats!), and passed on Dooce’s book (are you done with it already Bethany?).

I sat on the front porch and giggled and cried and giggled some more. Then, I thanked the Lord once again for all the loved ones He has blessed me with both near and far. It has been a physically and emotionally difficult week. I’ve stopped taking the pain meds that caused too much nausea and vertigo. I’ve been frustrated at not being able to “get back to work” as fast as I wanted to and being all itchy as my wounds healed and my skin reacted to the band-aids with a rash.

Tomorrow I’m supposed to get my staples out, but I have a feeling they’ll give at least the ones around my belly button another week - and THAT alone will have me in tears (no matter how hard I try I know I’ll crash when he says they have to stay in). So, keep me in your prayers at 3:30 tomorrow.

I’d also like to give a shout-out to Midlife Slices. She sent me a package of mini-pens she picked up from Target. Our Target is two towns over and would guzzle up too much gas to get to, so I was so happy she volunteered to look for me. She sent me quite a selection and we’re busy thinking of exactly what else we can create that might need mini-pens. So, thank you Janie!

Put Me In The Zoo is one of my favorites - I read it to my kids all the time (I don’t let them touch it since it’s my original book from when I was their age). My other favorite is The Sleep Book. I made sure to buy a new copy of that for them so they wouldn’t touch mine. Can you tell I treasure books I own?

    2. cher

Awwww great package! I love polkadot boxes too.

    3. MAGGIE AT COFFEESHOPMAFIA

Hope the itching goes away that was the WORST part. It took about 3 weeks for my itching to stop and the rash is still present a month and a half later. I look like that polka dot box.

    4. Angella

Those two are just the sweetest. You have been blessed, indeed!

    5. Lisa

      Heather,

I have been reading your blog for some time now but haven’t yet commented. I always wanted to have something witty or smart to say, and just haven’t had the opportunity. I read about your surgery and how down you’ve been and I thought…I don’t really need to be smart or witty, I should just comment and let you know that I enjoy your blog and I hope you are up and around again really soon cause I’m missin’ your gorgeous photos. You inspire me.

    6. Tanya

What an awesome care package! I’ve been thinking about you all week and sending get-well vibes your way.

    7. bethany actually

It never occurred to me that I was creating a Put-Me-in-the-Zoo box! I guess I read that book enough times as a kid and to Annalie that I’ve internalized it. (Also, I feel the need to mention that while it was a Cat-in-the-Hat book, it was actually written by Robert Lopshire.)

So glad it made you happy! :-)

    8. bethany actually

Oh, and yes, I read Dooce’s book and so did SAJ.

    9. Angela Tippets

That IS a great package!! So very thoughtful. I have heard horror stories of “the fat monster” after that surgery. Enjoy your skittles :) I think JR. Mints are fat free too? Glad you are on the mend, NOW go eat those Skittles :)

    10. Mr. OMSH

I too sat on the front porch and giggled and cried when I saw the contents of this lovely polka-dot box. Way to go gals.

    11. OMSH

      Mr. OMSH? You’re a dork.

bethany - OH REALLY? Well, that would explain why I could sound out most of it!

Angela Tippets - WHAT is a “fat monster”?

    12. SmockLady

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew Miss Brenda would send you a Sludgie. I am so glad she didn’t let me down. Harharhar.

OH, and that book needs to be on my wish list. I have been reading one of the blogs (since it’s inception) by one of the contributors. He is one of my all time favorite daddy-bloggers. He writes at Dear Spike, Love Dad.

    13. Kate

Ah, what great friends! What a great surprise! Hope you continue to heal quickly and the itchies go away soon.

    14. Stefani

Sludgie. Oh that is the best thing ever!

    15. Anna at Hank and WIllie

Hope you are feeling better soon! how can you not with friends and care packages like that. I mean really, a green felt gall bladder? That means LOVE!

    16. MMM

that is so gross and awesome!

    17. SparklieSunShine

Oh! That is probably as cute as a gallbladder can get. Aren’t they sweet? I love it.

    18. Starwoodgal

      Ahhh! What a great gift.

      Laughter is the best medicine.

I hope you’re feeling better soon.

    19. Carmen

When I had my surgery in May, I didn’t think I’d ever recover. And then, suddenly, I just was better.

      Hang in there, sweetie.

    20. Maria

You are blessed. What a wonderful surprise. You are right, only amazing things come in a polka dot box.

    21. ashpags

LOL, love it! Funny story: last night, I was praying for you, and couldn’t remember you last name, so I just stuttered “Heather…Heather…Heather OMSH!” and am confident that He knew who I was talking about. ;) Good luck this afternoon!

    22. ashpags

*Ack, that should say “your” last name, not “you”…ugh, mornings!

    23. Mrs. Wilson

Oh my! I’m away from the internet for a week and a half and you have your gall bladder removed? Crazy! I hope you feel better soon! I’m so glad you got a great package!

    24. Tiffany

What a great surprise. I will keep you in my thoughts today. My brother had transplant surgery in December, when the end of January came and they took out those staples…boy was he elated.

I do love your blog…it always makes me smile! So sending you good vibes to a speedy recovery!

    25. Kristen

Oh, Heather. Now I say that thing that people say that you HATE. Better to have the stitches out later rather than sooner. Wouldn’t want your insides to become your outsides.

    26. Cindy (kini)

I find it both hysterically funny and slightly disturbing! LOL!! What awesome friends you have!

    27. allison strine

oh, WOW, Heather. You really have a superb group of peeps around you! I’m so glad to hear that you’re on your way from misery to happiness today.. uh huh.

    28. Angela Tippets

ANYTHING consumed with fat IS a monster after gall bladder surgery. That’s the word on the street anyway :)

    29. aprilmommy

I must wonder if gall stones are contagious? I have been thinking about you all week with your surgery and guess what? I was rushed into surgery myself just last night to remove my gallbladder! Probably one of the most painful experiences of my life…
